Local fashion personalities voice out concerns about elderly Fil-Am woman attacked in New York

"You hurt one Filipino, you hurt all."

The latest case on Asian American attacks in the US involves a 65-year-old Filipino-American woman beaten in Midtown Manhattan in broad daylight.

In a video released on Instagram by Diet Prada on March 29, 2021, a man was seen punching and kicking the woman, who was on her way to church. Sadly the footage also captured guards shutting the doors on her, hence the media site's caption, "If you see something, do nothing?"

The New York Police Department got images of the man connected to the assault, and according to them, the man also made anti-Asian statements to the woman.

The post garnered many reactions on Instagram, some came from Filipino fashion personalities. Actress and fashion icon Heart Evangelista commented, "This is so painful to watch." While fashion stylist Liz Uy, model Kelsey Merrit, vloggers Camille Co and Laureen Uy, fashion designer Happy Andrada, among others, also shared the same sentiment.

Through an Instagram story, actress and jewelry designer KC Concepcion shared a lengthy message about the attack.

"You think Asian Hate in America solely involves the Chinese community? Think again. Apparently Filipinos are also under fire, and for no valid reason at all! I swear you hurt one Filipino, you hurt all," she says. "Filipinos continue to contribute to this nation, we are loyal, highly-skilled medical care soldiers, we have done nothing but believe in the greatness of America from decades upon decades."

Since January this year, the international fashion community has been rallying to #StopAsianHate, including global Filipino fashion leaders such as fashion designer Josie Natori and blogger Bryan Boy.
