Those looking for an efficient yet still stylish way to get around ought to turn their attention to the new Honda PCX160. The new maxi-scooter from Honda Philippines, Inc. levels up the game with a major upgrade. For 2021 the PCX gets a major re-style, upgraded equipment, and a 10cc bump in displacement bringing it up to 160cc.

The all-new PCX160 is easy to distinguish with its all-new look. Its distinctive LED headlights have been revised, forming one cohesive, U-shaped unit that integrates the headlight, LED position light and turn signals. Behind, it also bears a new combination LED tail light. The body features subtle restyles as well as a new exhaust. It also rides on new alloy wheels and bigger tubeless tires. It’s brought to a stop with disc brakes in front and behind.

The rider comfort is put in priority with a new, wider digital meter panel. The front shield features a large storage space capable of fitting a 1.7-liter bottle. It also comes with USB port to charge a mobile phone or mobile gadget. Under the seat is a 30-liter utility box capable of storing a helmet and additional items.

All PCX160 models now get the new smart key system as standard. It comes with anti-theft alarm and answer-back system. Riders simply have to keep the key in their pocket. A rotary dial on the front shield locks and unlocks the bike, and features switches to open the underseat storage and eight-liter fuel tank.

Powering the PCX160 is an Enhanced Smart Power Plus (eSP+) 4-valve, single overhead cam, liquid-cooled engine. Displacement is now 157cc. This produces 16-PS at 8,500 rpm and 14.7-Nm of torque at 6,500 rpm. The Idling Stop System (ISS), which turns off the engine automatically at traffic lights, is also fitted as standard. It’s paired with a CVT transmission for fully automatic operation.

The all-new PCX160 will be offered in two variants: the Anti-Lock Brake System (ABS) variant and the Combi-Brake System (CBS) variant.

The CBS variant uses Honda’s trademark combi-brake system which automatically applies pressure to the rear brake when the front brake lever is depressed at least 50 percent to return better stopping force in emergencies. This trim will be offered in Matte Dim Gray Metallic and Pearl Fadeless White with a suggested retail price of P115,900.

The ABS variant is also paired with Honda Selectable Torque Control (HSTC) serving as Honda’s own traction control system. It also gets gold emblems. Bear in mind that the ABS is only single channel and is fitted to the front wheel. The PCX160 ABS variant will be offered in Asteroid Black Metallic and Pearl Fadeless White, at a suggested retail price of P133,900.

"At Honda Philippines, we want to impact the lives of all Filipinos with our motorcycles. We believe The All-New PCX160 will do just that. After all, what we want is to contribute to the creation of a better, new normal," HPI President Susumu Mitsuishi said.

As exciting as it is, those interested may have to wait. The all-new Honda PCX160 will be available at all Honda dealerships nationwide on May 2021. Those interested may already make reservations.
