Neon's midlaner Yopaj wants to take on Virtus.pro counterpart gpk in SG Major

Team Secret's Michal "Nisha" Jankowski or Evil Geniuses' Filipino star Abed "Abed" Yusop could be the easy picks for the midlaner to beat in the ONE Esports Singapore Major.

But OB.Neon Esports' star midlaner Jasper "Yopaj" Ferrer is eager to test his mettle against Virtus.pro counterpart Danil "gpk" Skutin.

The 19-year-old Yopaj is a 10K MMR player while gpk, who is interestingly just three days older than him, is an 11K MMR Russian pro.

"Gusto kong makalaban sa mid si gpk kasi nagagalingan ako sa kanya simula noong nasa Gambit pa siya (I want to play against gpk at the mid because I'm impressed with his game ever since he was playing for Gambit)," Yopaj told Manila Bulletin in an online chat. 

However, Yopaj and Neon need to make it past the group stage first to get a shot at gpk and VP in the playoffs of the first Dota 2 Major of 2021 being hosted by ONE Esports and PGL.

VP punched a ticket straight to the playoffs after sweeping all its seven series in the Dota Pro Circuit (DPC)-CIS Upper Division. The Russian powerhouse only dropped a single game throughout the eight-week regional league.

Neon is battling it out in the eight-team group stage where seven squads will advance to the playoffs, with the 1st and 2nd finishers heading to the upper bracket and the 4th-7th placers going to the lower bracket.

As of posting time, the all-Filipino team only has a single game victory after settling for a 1-1 draw with China's Team Aster in the first day of the group stage hostilities on Monday, March 29.

Neon is currently taking on another Chinese giant in PSG.LGD.

Earlier, Yopaj and the gang lost 2-0 to North America's Quincy Crew and China's Vici Gaming.
