Palace expects ECQ to slash COVID-19 cases by more than 25%
Malacañang believes that the reimposition of the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) in the Greater Manila Area will cut down the number of coronavirus (COVID-19) cases by more than 25 percent.

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque made the statement after President Duterte approved placing Metro Manila, Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal under ECQ from March 29 to April 4.
In his press briefing on Saturday, Roque did not go into detail but said the ECQ will result in at least a 25-percent drop in COVID-19 cases.
"I think the expectation is mas malaki pa po sa (it will be more than) 25 percent because this is ECQ," he said.
Roque said the estimate will be explained in detail on Monday, the first day of the ECQ.
President Duterte initially approved placing Metro Manila and four adjacent provinces under a general community quarantine (GCQ) bubble for two weeks until April 4.
Roque said in an interview that the GCQ will bring down the spike of COVID-19 cases.
"We’re estimating that with these measures and at the end of the two-week period, that the numbers would drop by at least 25 percent, but we’re hoping for more," he told ANC's "Headstart" on March 22.
The Philippines registered 9,595 new COVID-19 cases on Saturday, March 27, bringing the total number of infections to 712,442.
During the one-week ECQ period, those below 18 years old and above 65, those with comorbidities and other health risks, and pregnant women are required to stay at home except when obtaining essential goods and services. However, authorized persons outside their residence (APOR) will be allowed outside.
