Brandon Rosser is set to play for Phoenix in the inaugural PBA 3x3 tournament, becoming the latest Fil-foreigner who was declared ineligible in the recent Rookie Draft to join the pro league’s own version of the halfcourt discipline.
Team manager Paolo Bugia confirmed Friday, March 26 that Rosser has come to terms to play for Phoenix in the upcoming 3x3 tournament which the PBA plans to start at the same time as the 46th season.
“We have agreed in principle,” said Bugia, adding that the former San Miguel Alab Pilipinas cager is currently under quarantine after arriving in Manila recently.
The 6-foot-7 Rosser was supposed to enter the recent PBA Draft but failed to submit a Bureau of Immigration certificate and Department of Justice affirmation required for applicants born outside of the country.
It was the same dilemma that also led to Rosser’s former Alab teammates Jason Brickman and Jeremiah Gray to also sign with the PBA 3x3 teams of Meralco and TNT.
Under PBA 3x3 rules, Fil-foreigners can suit up as long as they have already secured a Philippine passport.
The PBA 3x3 stint should also give the brother of Terrafirma’s Matt Ganuelas-Rosser more time to process his papers in order to be given the green light to apply for the 2022 Draft.
Rosser, 26, played college basketball at University of California Riverside before becoming a solid frontcourt presence during his two seasons with Alab in the ASEAN Basketball League.
