Roque admits falling for 'change oil' joke in reply to query on movement restrictions in GCQ bubble

Presidential Spokesman Harry Roque could not help but laugh after realizing that he fell for a joke when he responded to a question if vehicle owners can have their oil changed in areas within the general community quarantine (GCQ) bubble.

Roque made the statement after President Duterte approved placing the National Capital Region (NCR), Bulacan, Cavite, Laguna, and Rizal under a GCQ bubble from March 22 to April 4 to arrest the spike in coronavirus disease (COVID-19) cases.

In his Monday presser, Roque let out a chuckle after recognizing that he did not get the change oil joke at first. On Sunday evening, he answered the question of a reporter if changing oil is possible in Batangas if the owner is living in Metro Manila.

"Henry, sinagot kita, knowing... akalain... na yung joke mo pala akala ko totoo pagdating doon sa change oil na 'yan (Henry, I answered your question not knowing that the change oil question was a joke)," he laughed as he addressed radio reporter Henry Uri.

"So uuiltin ko, kapag Batangas hindi na po pwede mag-change-oil (So let me reiterate, if you will change your oil in Batangas, that is not allowed)," he added.

As if going with the joke, Roque said that mechanics should make sure that their customers are really there for an oil change.

"Sa mga nagbabantay, siguraduhin na talagang nagche-change oil (To those manning the shops, make sure that your customers are there to change-oil)!" he said.

The term change-oil took on a different meaning over the weekend due to a viral Facebook post about a girl being betrayed by her fiance and another girl that both of them know.

The said vehicle maintenance measure became a running joke after the man in the viral Facebook post reasoned out that he and the other girl were together because she accompanied him when he went for an oil change.
