Doraemon is now a global sustainability ambassador

Green Doraemon represents Uniqlo and his advocacy for a sustainable future

“Doreamon” fans, this is not a drill! The beloved manga and anime character is Uniqlo’s newest sustainability ambassador. 

In a global online press conference on March 22, 2021, the brand has introduced the famed cat-type robot character as the newest member of its family. 

But unlike his iconic blue color, the Doraemon from the future has turned green, to represent his call for sustainability. 

“The name of the green model of the internationally beloved blue Japanese manga and anime character is ‘Doraemon Sustainability Mode,’” the brand says in a statement. “Presented with the Uniqlo logo also rendered in green, he will help convey the many ways in which Uniqlo materializes its sustainability message of ‘Changing our future through the power of clothing.’” 

Meanwhile Doraemon says that he is looking forward to working with everyone toward a sustainable future. 

“Hi, everyone! I’m Doraemon and now I am Green! I’ll do my best as global sustainability ambassador to help create a much brighter future,” he says. “I want to work with you all, so we can make people everywhere more interested in the future of our world!”

The beloved character also says that his loved for the ocean encouraged him to participate in the brand’s different sustainability programs. 

“I’m so happy,” he says. “I like to play in the ocean. Let’s make the ocean cleaner and let's do our best together.”
