Barangay Ginebra San Miguel coach Tim Cone extended his well wishes to Robert Jaworski after it was learned that the franchise legend had a bout with pneumonia last year.
Cone tweeted Friday, March 19 his hope that Jaworski can make a full recovery with his trademark “Never Say Die” spirit that made Ginebra the country’s most popular ballclub.
“Our prayers lifted for the Big J. May he be infused with the Ginebra NSD spirit!” Cone said.
Jaworski’s family revealed that the iconic former cager and coach not only dealt with pneumonia but has been “expressing difficulty in regaining his strength, weight and well-being” due to complications related to a non-life threatening blood abnormality which was diagnosed in 2016.
But the family also said that Jaworski, who turned 75 last March 8, is “making good progress and is slowly moving forward.”
Cone’s admiration of “The Living Legend” has been well-documented, even telling a story that he used to watch Jaworski train while he was playing with Meralco in the old MICAA.
He also said in multiple interviews that Jaworski is perhaps the “Most Important Person” in the history of the PBA, due to his contributions beginning with Toyota and later with Ginebra.
Cone even paid tribute to Jaworski shortly after surpassing him as the winningest coach in Ginebra history during last season’s PBA Philippine Cup in Pampanga.
