STO. DOMINGO, Nueva Ecija – A drunk school teacher was burned to death by a 20-year-old man whom he slapped in Barangay San Pascual here Thursday.
Nueva Ecija police director Police Col. Jaime Santos identified the victim as Rolando dela Cruz, 63, of Barangay San Alejandro, Quezon, this province.
The suspect, Joebert Gamrot, was arrested by responding policemen and is presently detained at the municipal jail.
Initial report revealed that the victim, who was allegedly under the influence of liquor, arrived in the area and slapped the head of the suspect several times for no apparent reason.
Angered, Gamrot, who was then playing with his cellular phone, grabbed a piece of wood and struck the victim's head. Dela Cruz lost consciousness and Gamrot burned the victim whom he believed was still alive at the time.
Santos has ordered a thorough investigation of the incident.
