Olsim rises in ONE debut, Calim falls

Team Lakay's strawweight rookie Jenelyn Olsim and Filipino-Indonesia Aziz Calim had contrasting results in ONE: Fists of Fury III at the Singapore Indoor Stadium Friday night, March 19.

Olsim marked a successful debut in the Circle after scoring a third-round submission over No. 5 contender Maira Mazar of Brazil while Calim suffered defeat at the hands of Indian rising star Roshan Mainam in their flyweight bout.

Olsim, 23, outclassed the 35-year-old Brazilian veteran on both ends from start to finish, improving to a 4-2 mixed martial arts record. Mazar of Evolve MMA, for her part, fell to a 7-4 card.

The Team Lakay stalwart swiftly executed a guillotine choke from standing position after using her left leg to tilt Mazar and put force on her body weight down the canvas, forcing referee Olivier Coste to intervene at the 41-second mark of the last round.

The Filipino muay thai specialist had a solid start in the second frame with a front kick that sent Mazar to the ground and mixed it up with continuous one-two combos and kicks.

Olsim's unconventional fighting also captured the interest of ONE commentator Mitch Chilson and Rich Franklin, lauding the Team Lakay warrior's improvised flying knee straight to Mazar's body while lying down on the canvas.

The first round likewise proved to be instrumental for the Igorot warrior as she landed a solid right hook for her first knockdown score.

In the men's flyweight, Mainam only needed two minutes and 45 seconds to finish Calim with a slick rear-naked choke.

Mainam remained undefeated in ONE Championship after three bouts to climb up at an overall 6-2 record while Calim (5-5) has lost three of his last four fights in the Singapore-based promotion since November 2018.
