DICT: DITO, a boost to Cebu IT-BPM sector

DITO Telecommunity, the country’s third player, could boost the information technology-business process management (IT-BPM) services sector of Cebu.

This was the pronouncement of the Department of Information and Communications Technology Visayas Cluster 2 (DICT VC2) last night (March 18).

"The entry of DITO will enhance the available telecommunications infrastructure in Cebu and give our stakeholders more options, in terms of services, and strengthen our capacity to provide IT-BPM services,” DICT VC2 Director Frederick Amores stated.

The commercial launch of the country's third telco is expected to help Cebu turn into a more attractive outsourcing destination for foreign investors.

DITO will provide more options for data and broadband consumers, especially since Filipinos are currently adopting remote learning and telecommuting due to the ongoing pandemic.

"We hope that DITO's commercial rollout would bring about welcome dynamism to the current Philippine telecom industry," Department of Information Communication Technology (DICT) Secretary Gregorio Honasan declared during the third player's March 8 commercial launch in 15 areas in Metro Cebu and Davao.

Currently, DITO is available in ten Metro Cebu areas: Carcar, Cebu City, Consolacion, Danao, Liloan, Mandaue, Minglanilla, Naga, San Fernando and Talisay.

The third telco is focusing on mobile and fixed broadband services in its first two years.

However, its edge over competitors is that it does not have a legacy network.

All of DITO's network makes use of 4th Generation (4G) and 5G technology.

For this reason, "We have the unique ability to provide better service at affordable prices," company executives maintained.
