Brickman signs with Meralco for PBA 3x3 stint

Meralco signed Jason Brickman to play for its PBA 3x3 team after he was listed as ineligible in the recent Rookie Draft due to incomplete documents.

The Bolts made the announcement Friday, March 19, allowing Brickman to use the competition as preparation for his eventual PBA entry while he process his papers in hopes of entering the 2022 Draft.

“We’re looking forward to seeing his brand of basketball up close,” said Meralco team manager Paolo Trillo. “He’s a veteran playmaker who has proven himself internationally and we’re excited to have him on board.”

Brickman would have been a bonafide early first round pick but failed to secure a Bureau of Immigration certificate and Department of Justice affirmation prescribed by the PBA for players who were born outside of the country.

Fil-foreigners with similar dilemmas as Brickman, however, can join the new 3x3 competition which the PBA hopes to hold at the same time with the 46th season.

No draft will be held for the inaugural 3x3 tournament, allowing PBA teams which signified their intention of joining to sign players directly.

The league is eyeing about 12 to 16 teams to participate in the 3x3 tourney which could start with a three-conference format.

Alaska has opted out of the tournament to allow its team governor Dickie Bachmann to focus on the 3x3 league which he serves as chairman.
