Korean star Kim Seon-ho reaches 5 million followers on Instagram

Korean “trending actor” Kim Seon-ho, who starred in the drama “Start-Up,” has racked up five million followers on Instagram.
The 34-year-old actor experienced a surge in his popularity after playing the role of Han Ji-pyeong in “Start-Up” with Bae Suzy and Nam Joo-hyuk. The drama aired from October to December 2020.
His Instagram followers sharply increased by almost two million in a span of less than a month last December. He reached 3 million Instagram followers on Dec. 5 from 1.08 million on Nov. 3, a rise of 1.92 million followers, according to Social Blade stats.
Kim Seon-ho’s Instagram followers hit the 4-million mark on Dec. 26 and increased to 4.5 million by January. The number of his followers on Instagram reached 5 million on March 16.
He held his first global online fan meeting on TikTok on Jan. 17 that recorded 1.01 million cumulative viewers.
His fame opened to many endorsing deals. He became a brand model for Edition Sensibility, a Korean clothing line.
The brand told Korean media that every time the products worn by Kim Seon-ho are released, they get overwhelming attention and sales. A sweatshirt worn by the actor jumped 200 percent in sales.
Kim Seon-ho is currently a regular cast member of the Korean TV reality-variety show “2 Days & 1 Night.”
As his popularity rose and he became busy with his schedule, there were rumors that he would leave the variety show but he assured fans that he would stay.
“I’m going to be here longer than anyone else. Although I’m worried a little that the entertainer version of myself might appear in my characters, that’s something that I need to overcome,” Kim Seon-ho said last December, according to Korea JoongAng Daily.
He added, “Thankfully, I think for now viewers who enjoyed ‘Start-Up’ are coming over to watch ‘2 Days & 1 Night’ and other drama series .”
Kim Seon-ho has been acting on stage through the play “Ice,” which started at Sejong Center S Theater in Seoul last Jan. 8 and will have its final performance on March 31. Kim Seon-ho, who plays the role of a detective, will wrap up the play on March 31.
