Globe plans to build 2,000 towers in 2021

After securing 495 permits from local government units ( LGUs) within the first two months of the year, Globe Telecom Inc. Wednesday, (March 17), announced that its target of installing 2,000 new towers for 2021 is on track.

The telco gained 253 permits in the first month of the year before following it up with another 242 permits in February.

North Luzon topped the areas with the most permits secured, with 164 total, followed by the National Capital Region (NCR), with 118 and Visayas, 78.

Mindanao was fourth with 71 permits and South Luzon, 64.

When it comes to provinces, Nueva Ecija released the most permits with 40, Pangasinan came in second with 32 while Davao del Sur was at third with 31 -- 23 of which came from Davao City alone. Cebu released 30 while Bulacan handed out 20 permits.

In Metro Manila, Pasig City topped the LGUs with the most permits issued with 25, Manila is second with 22 and Makati third with 11. Quezon City released nine permits while Paranaque handed out seven permits.

“More and more local government units now realize the importance of connectivity especially for people who work from home and for children doing online learning," noted Joel Agustin, Globe Senior Vice President for Program Delivery, Network Technical Group.

"They have seen the importance of having a strong internet connection and good signal on how to extend basic government services to their constituents. Not having connectivity, while the whole country has embraced the new normal, will really have an impact on how the people see their LGUs in these challenging times,” he elaborated.

Globe’s aggressive network builds and upgrades improved its mobile average download speed across all technologies to 16.44 Mbps in Q4 2020 from 13.50 Mbps in Q4 2019, a 22 percent improvement according to Ookla data.
