Terrafirma selects Joshua Munzon as top rookie in virtual draft

Terrafirma officially made Joshua Munzon as the top overall pick of the record-setting PBA Rookie Draft held Sunday, March 14.
The Dyip made no surprises in picking the 26-year-old Fil-American to start off the draft proceedings held both virtually and at the TV5 Media Center in Mandaluyong City.
Munzon will now be tasked to lead Terrafirma this coming 46th season after the franchise curiously opted to trade its star guard CJ Perez to San Miguel Beer in late-January.
He hopes to carry on the experience gained from stints in the ASEAN Basketball League, PBA D-League and Chooks-to-Go Pilipinas 3x3 to Terrafirma, which received the right to select first after finishing dead last in the PBA Philippine Cup bubble.
NorthPort opted to go for versatile forward Jamie Malonzo, the former one-and-done standout of La Salle, as its No. 2 selection despite rumors that the team was choosing between him and fellow Fil-Am Mikey Williams.
NLEX got former San Beda star Calvin Oftana at No. 3 before Williams was taken by TNT, which acquired the No. 4 selection from the latter courtesy of a three-team trade that also involved Blackwater.
Rain or Shine chose versatile big man Santi Santillan, the former La Salle, D-League, MPBL and Chooks 3x3 mainstay, at No. 5 while Alaska drafted one-time University of Perpetual Help center Ben Adamos with the sixth overall selection.
Former Letran center Larry Muyang was taken by Phoenix Super LPG at No. 7, Terrafirma took ex-La Salle big James Laput at No. 8, erstwhile University of the East and Chooks 3x3 star Alvin Pasaol ninth by Meralco, Jerrick Ahanmisi at No. 10 by Magnolia, Troy Rike 11th by NorthPort and former Far Eastern University Ken Holmqvist at No. 12 by Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.
Ginebra began the second round with the selection of Fil-Am Brian Enriquez, Blackwater picked Reymark Acuno and Joshua Torralba at 14th and 15th and Fil-Canadian Taylor Browne going to Alaska at 16th.
Guard Franky Johnson, formerly of the D-League and Chooks 3x3, was picked by Rain or Shine, Phoenix drafted MPBL mainstay Nick Demusis and ex-La Salle guard Aljun Melecio, NLEX got David Murrell of University of the Philippines while Alaska went with ex-FEU guard Alec Stockton.
Rain or Shine got two more guards in Anton Asistio from Ateneo and Andrei Caracut of La Salle before NorthPort made a surprise pick by taking ex-University of the East Red Warrior Mark Olayon last in the second round.
Thirty-seven more were selected during the proceedings that lasted almost three hours, resulting in a record 65 out of 86 applicants taken including the four players who were part of a special round for new members of the Gilas Pilipinas pool.
Notable players taken in the next six rounds were MPBL and D-League vet Dhon Reverente (Terrafirma, third round), actor and one-time D-League cager Andre Paras (Blackwater, third round), former San Sebastian guard RK Ilagan (Alaska, third round) and ex-FEU high school star Jerie Pingoy (Phoenix, fifth round).
