PCG brings almost 1,400 COVID jabs to Western Visayas


The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) assisted in the transportation of close to 1,400 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) vaccines in Western Visayas on Friday, March 12.

According to the PCG, the provincial health office of Negros Occidental received 990 vials of Sinovac vaccines and 74 vials of AstraZeneca vaccines.

Meanwhile, the city health office of Bacolod received 312 AstraZeneca jabs.

“Frontline medical workers shall receive the vaccines in preparation for the massive inoculation drive against COVID-19 in the region,” the Coast Guard said in a statement.

In addition to the 600,000 Sinovac vaccines donated by China, the country has also been given over 500,000 vials of the British-Swedish made AstraZeneca vaccines under the World Health Organization (WHO)- led COVAX facility.

These coronavirus vaccines have so far been administered to more than 114,000 medical frontliners in the country.
