Social media users expressed mixed reactions Sunday, March 14, after the social media account of Lt. Gen. Antonio Parlade Jr., the controversial military official known for his relentless anti-communist insurgency views, seemingly got restricted.

The Southern Luzon Command (SoLCom), headed by Parlade as its commander, re-posted on its official Facebook account an undated photo showing that the personal account of Parlade has been "restricted." The photo was a screenshot originally posted by a group supporting the military official.
Some of Parlade's supporters slammed Facebook for its "double standard policy" since they argued that the social media accounts of groups that are linked by the government to the Communist Party of the Philippines (CPP) and New People's Army (NPA) have not been restricted or banned.
Meanwhile, others commented on the photo and said that Parlade's account must have been "mass reported" due to its contents.
According to Facebook Help Center, an individual can be restricted or even blocked from accessing, posting, sharing, or commenting on his Facebook account due to three reasons.
A Facebook user is restricted if s/he posted or shared an item that "looks suspicious or abusive" to the security systems of the social media company; if the messages or friend requests that s/he sent "have been marked as unacceptable;" or if s/he has done something that "does not comply" with Facebook's Community Standards.
Facebook said that the duration of the restriction or block depends on the severity of the violation and the account's history.
A quick search on Facebook showed that Parlade's last online activity was before 12 noon Sunday, where he posted photos and information about the surrender of two alleged high-ranking leaders of the CPP in Cagayan de Oro City. "Surrender or Die," he wrote on his post.
In the previous days, Parlade also made social media posts about the bloody operations of the military and police in Calabarzon (Region 4A) on March 7 where nine individuals were killed and six others were jailed.
A social media savvy, Parlade often posts his commentaries and rants about the national government's anti-insurgency campaign on his social media accounts. He serves as the concurrent spokesperson of the National Task Force to End Local Communist Armed Conflict (NTF-ELCAC) but the Senate recently adopted the recommendation of a panel to remove him from this post.
The restriction of Parlade's account happened five months after Facebook also removed more than 100 fake accounts and pages linked to the military and police due to their "coordinated inauthentic behavior."
The accounts and pages were found to be simultaneously posting and re-posting social media posts that allegedly targeted activists; supported the 2022 presidential candidacy of President Duterte's daughter, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte; and discussed China's interests in the West Philippine Sea.
