Secure the north! PH Coast Guard stations to rise in Calayan Island
The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) will construct stations in Calayan Island, Cagayan in order to strengthen the country's maritime security in Northern Luzon.
PCG Commandant Admiral George Ursabia Jr. and Calayan Island Mayor Joseph Llopis have signed the deed of donation of the 1,000 square-meter land area in the island on Tuesday, March 9.
“The establishment of Coast Guard stations and/or sub-stations at an approximately 1,000-square-meter land area in the island will not only enhance maritime law enforcement, maritime security, maritime safety, maritime search and rescue, and marine environmental protection in the norther part of Luzon, but also in the waters of the West Philippine Sea,” the Coast Guard said in a statement.
Meanwhile, Ursabia expressed his gratitude to the local government of Calayan Island for supporting the initiatives of the Coast Guard in strengthening its visibility in the region.
