BTS places first, BLACKPINK in fifth place on IFPI 2020 Global Album Sales Chart

K-pop boy band BTS copped first place and girl group BLACKPINK placed fifth on the 2020 Global Album Sales Chart announced by the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry (IFPI), an “organization that represents the recorded music industry worldwide.”

BTS’ “Map of the Soul: 7” is the winner of the IFPI 2020 Global Album Sales Chart and according to IFPI, the album “saw incredible sales all over the world and broke the all-time sales record in the band’s home country of Korea.”

The 2020 Global Album Sales Chart revealed the top 10 best-selling albums based on physical sales and digital downloads.

This is the third award for BTS from IFPI since last week. BTS won the IFPI Global Recording Artist of the Year and became the first winner of the IFPI Global Album All Format Chart Award. Their hit song “Dynamite” also placed 10th on the IFPI Top 10 Global Digital Singles of 2020.

In addition, BTS’ “BE (Deluxe Edition)” grabbed second place and their Japanese album “Map of the Soul: 7 - The Journey” is in eight place on the sales chart

“BTS’ success across IFPI’s global charts – including the top two positions in this chart – is unprecedented and demonstrates the amazing global appeal of their music. We would like to congratulate the band once again on such a successful year,” said Frances Moore, IFPI chief executive.

Meanwhile, BLACKPINK’s “The Album,” released in October 2020, placed fifth on the global sales chart.
