BLACKPINK's Rosé's debut single album 'R' reaches 400,000 copies in pre-orders

K-pop girl group BLACKPINK member Rosé’s debut solo album has reached 400,000 copies in pre-orders to set a record.

YG Entertainment, BLACKPINK’s agency, said her single album “R” reached the milestone on March 8 to become the biggest pre-orders for a female solo artist in K-pop history.

The total pre-orders came from Korea, China, Southeast Asia, US, Europe and Japan and is expected to increase before the album’s release on March 12.

“R” contains two songs, “Gone” and “On The Ground, and will be released in four versions including CD, LP and KiT. The physical album will be out on March 16.

At BLACKPINK’s first livestream concert “The Show” on YouTube last Jan. 31, Rosé’ surprised fans by performing “Gone.”

The first music video teaser for “On The Ground” has garnered 12.7 million views on YouTube since its upload on March 7. A second teaser released on March 9 has racked up 3.45 million views as of writing.

YG Entertainment said that the album’s title “R,” the first letter of Rosé’s name, means a new beginning for her and her first step as a solo artist.

Rosé participated as a songwriter in her debut solo album. Songwriters for “On The Ground” are Amy Allen, Raul Cubina, Jorden Odegard, Ojivolta, Teddy, Jon Bellion, 24 and Rosé. For “Gone,” the songwriters are Brian Lee, J. Lauryn, 23, Teddy and Rosé.

She is reportedly going to perform on “The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon” on March 16. Rosé is the second member of BLACKPINK to release solo music after Jennie’s “Solo” in 2018.
