Ryan Garcia's trainer prefers other lightweight fighters over Pacquiao

Eddy Reynoso, the trainer of interim WBC lightweight champion Ryan Garcia, reiterated that his prized pupil should focus on other lightweight top guns over Filipino legend Manny Pacquiao.

"For starters, I think Ryan has to establish himself at 140 lbs. He has to win fights, he has to keep learning in the gym," Reynoso told Little Giant Boxing in Mexican.

"For me, I don't really like a fight with Manny Pacquiao because Pacquiao is a fighter that's in a higher class weight. I would prefer if Ryan Garcia fights Teofimo , Haney, or Tank ."

Lopez (16-0, 12 KOs) is the unified WBA (super), IBF, WBO lightweight king, Davis (24-0, 23 KOs) holds the regular WBA lightweight champion, while Haney (25-0, 15 KOs) owns the WBC lightweight title. All three lightweights stars are undefeated.

This wasn't the first time though that the veteran Mexican trainer expressed his opinion regarding Garcia's future fight. Reynoso, 44, earlier said the Garcia-Davis bout "can be the biggest fight in boxing."

The 22-year-old Garcia also had a shift in his tune regarding the "dream fight" recently, clearing the air on his end and explained the sequence of events that led him in posting a supposed fight poster against Pacquiao on social media.

The undefeated American youngster had recalled that it was his own handler Golden Boy Promotions that gave him the glimmer of hope for a possible fight with the one and only eight-division world champion.

Oscar De La Hoya, Golden Boy Promotions chief, earlier said there has been "zero" movement regarding the Pacquiao-Garcia bout.

Reynoso, however, said he wouldn't be shocked if that fight happens given De La Hoya as Garcia's promoter.

Nonetheless, he vowed to do their best for the victory should the Pacquiao-Garcia fight pushes through.

"From my point of view, I'm stating the fight I would like to happen, but in the end, they decide what they do. But also if it happens, I'll get him ready."

Garcia maintained a perfect 21-0 record with 18 knockouts after stunning Luke Campbell in early January for the interim WBC lightweight title while the 42-year-old Pacquiao has not fought since scoring a split decision victory over Keith Thurman in July 2019 to improve at 62-7-2 slate with 39 KOs.
