Smart Omega trounces NXP for first Wild Rift Asia Brawl championship

Smart Omega Esports recently ruled the first-ever Wild Rift Asia Brawl after taking down fellow Filipino team Nexplay Esports, 4-2, in the grand finals. 

Rising ADC Gerald "Taymlaps" Bermundo's Ezreal and veteran top laner Jaiby "JLC" Paglingayen's Akali took charge in the championship-clinching Game 6 on Sunday night. 

Taymlaps tallied six kills and eight assists against a lone death while JLC, tabbed as one of the best top lane players in LoL PC in Southeast Asia a few years back, racked up six kills and three assists with only two deaths. 

Omega bagged the winner's prize of $800 (over P38,000) in the preseason tournament organized by Wild Rift Competitive and joined by 16 teams from seven countries. 

"This is just the preseason to the tournament proper but now we are able to gauge how strong the competition is in Asia," said Omega chief gaming officer Miko Cuartero. 

"Our country is looking to be a strong contender in the Wild Rift circuit. With two of the four Filipino teams in the grand finals, we are off to a good start," added Cuartero. 

Besides Taymlaps and JLC, Omega is composed of another LoL PC veteran Ronel "Stronger" Tan (captain-support), former Arena of Valor player John Lloyd "Impressive" Dela Cruz and young blood Maynard "Arise" Pison.  

After an impressive group stage campaign, the Smart-backed squad rolled to a blazing run in the upper bracket, beating 16-Bit Gear of South Korea (2-0), NXP (2-1) and eventual third-placer Chaikamook of Thailand (2-1). 

NXP, for its part, took the runner-up prize of $500 (over P24,000) after a commendable run in the lower bracket.
