Nothing is permanent, says Amer after trade to Blackwater

Baser Amer reflected on his five-year stint with the Meralco Bolts that ended when he was traded to the Blackwater Elite.

The Bolts parted ways with their top floor general last Thursday when Amer and veteran big man Bryan Faundo were shipped to the Elite in exchange for versatile forward Mac Belo.

“(Five) long beautiful years with the Bolts went by so fast,” said Amer, who spoke about the trade for the first time since the deal was approved by the PBA Commissioner’s Office.

Amer was drafted seventh overall by the Manny V. Pangilinan-owned franchise in the 2015 PBA Draft and was the starting point guard during Meralco’s three Finals appearances in the Governors’ Cup.

But with the chance of having Belo to improve its frontcourt and guards Aaron Black, the Outstanding Rookie of the PBA Philippine Cup bubble, and sophomore Trevis Jackson coming off solid campaigns, the Bolts felt they needed to let go of Amer in order for the trade to prosper.

Still, Amer was grateful for his time with the Meralco franchise.

“Walang ibang masasabi kung hindi pasasalamat, from boss MVP to the coaches and staff as well as the management and my former teammates,” he also said on his Instagram post. “Grateful for the beautiful ride with this organization, nothing more I could ask for.

Amer is hoping for a fresh start at Blackwater where he is expected to play a prominent role at the backcourt.

“Moving forward with all the memories and learnings as a Bolt. Nothing is permanent especially with this career. Sa muling pagkikita,” Amer concluded.
