Christopher Plummer, 'The Sound of Music' star, passes away at 91

Canadian theater and film actor Christopher Plummer has passed away at his home in Connecticut on Friday. He was 91.

Famous for his portrayal of Captain von Trapp in the Oscar-winning musical “The Sound of Music” alongside Julie Andrews, Plummer’s acting career spanned seven decades. He appeared in numerous films, including “A Beautiful Mind” (2001), “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” (2011), and “Knives Out” (2019), just to name a few. Apart from roles on camera and on stage, he also did voice acting for titles like “An American Tale” (1986) and “Up” (2009).

In a statement, Plummer’s longtime friend and manager, Lou Pitt, calls him a “national treasure who deeply relished his Canadian roots.”

“Chris was an extraordinary man who deeply loved and respected his profession with great old fashion manners, self deprecating humor and the music of words,” says Pitt. “Through his art and humanity, he touched all of our hearts and his legendary life will endure for all generations to come. He will forever be with us.”
