Fil-Am artist H.E.R. gets Golden Globes nod

H.E.R.

Grammy awardee Filipino-American artist Gabriella Sarmiento Wilson, popularly known as H.E.R., has been nominated for a Golden Globe for her music in the movie "Judas and the Black Messiah."

H.E.R. (an acronym for Having Everything Revealed) notched a nomination for Best Original Song for the track "Fight For You." The song was written by H.E.R. and Tiara Thomas; and music by H.E.R. and Dernst Emile II.

"Judas and the Black Messiah" is the story of Fred Hampton, Chairman of the Illinois Black Panther Party, and his fateful betrayal by FBI informant William O'Neal.

Â H.E.R., 23, is a Grammy-winning artist. In 2019, she won Grammys for Best R&B Performance and Best R&B Album.

In 2020, H.E.R. was nominated for five awards at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards, including Album of the Year for "I Used to Know Her" and Song of the Year "Hard Place."

At the In Memoriam segment of the 72nd Primetime Emmy Awards in Sept. 2020, H.E.R. sang SinÃ©ad O'Connor's version of Prince's original "Nothing Compares 2 U."

H.E.R. admits: "I'm half Filipino and Filipinos love karaoke." She was born in Vallejo, California to a Filipino mother and African father.

The 2021 Golden Globes Awards will be held on Sunday, Feb. 28. It will be hosted by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.
