Abanse Negrense A advances to PSL beach volley semis

Alexa Polidario and Erjane Magdato of Abanse Negrense A remained unscathed entering the semifinals of the 2020 Gatorade-Philippine Superliga (PSL) Beach Volleyball Challenge Cup after clobbering Jonah San Pedro and Javen Sabas of Toby's Sports, 21-12, 21-11, on Saturday at the SBMA Sands Court in Subic, Zambales. 

Picking up from where they left off in the pool play, the stalwarts from University of Negros Occidental-Recoletos came out with guns ablaze as they easily won the first quarterfinal match of the historic volleyball tournament under a bubble setup. 

"Ang goal lang po namin dito ay manalo at ma-inspire pa 'yung ibang players especially 'yung ibang Negrosanon (Our goal here is to win and inspire other players especially our fellow Negrosanon)," said Magdato. 

The Polidario-Magdato tandem is set to face the winner of the quarterfinal clash between Sta. Lucia B and United Auctioneers, Inc. in the final four on Sunday, Feb. 27, with the finals scheduled later on the day. 

Earlier, the two Abanse Negrense teams each completed a three-game sweep in the pool stage to clinch the top seed in their respective group. 

Polidario and Magdato obliterated Ariane Alarcon and Christina Canares of guest team Kennedy Solar Energy-Petro Gazz, 21-4, 21-7, to emerge atop Pool A. 

For their part, Jennifer Casas and Gelimae Villanueva of Abanse Negrense B made short work of San Pedro and Sabas, 21-11, 21-9, for the pole position in Pool B. 

Following their defeats to the Negrense standouts, the Sta. Lucia bets bounced back on the second day to snag the second seeds. 

DM Demontano and Jackie Estoquia of Sta. Lucia A vented their ire on Ella Viray and Theresa Ramas of United Auctioneers, 21-13, 21-14, for a 2-1 record in Pool B. 

Sta. Lucia B's Jonah Sabete and Bang Pineda pummeled F2 Logistics' Jenney Senares and Kyla Gallego, 21-14, 21-13, to finish with a 2-1 slate in Pool A. 

As of posting time, Sta. Lucia A was taking on F2 Logistics while Abanse Negrense B was battling Kennedy Solar Energy-Petro Gazz in the other quarterfinal pairings.
