'Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas' is getting a sequel

This time, it is all about the ragdoll Sally

Ever wondered what happened next to Halloween Town and its pumpkin royalties Jack Skellington and Sally? Well, we are about to get some answers as the 1993 cult classic film “Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas” is getting a sequel. But instead of the stop-motion animation process, the film continues its story as a YA novel to be penned by Shea Ernshaw.

Known for her other books “The Wicked Deep” and “Winterwood,” Shea confirmed the project with Disney Publishing through an Instagram post. According to her, the setting of the book will take place after the ending of the movie and will be written from Sally’s point-of-view. 

“It’s the yet-to-be-told love story of Sally and Jack. But it’s also a coming-of-age story for Sally, as we see her navigate her new royal title as the Pumpkin Queen of Halloween Town,” Ernshaw tells Gizmodo. “ will hopefully give fans a long-awaited second dose of Sally, Jack, and all the familiar residents of Halloween Town, while introducing a new cast of grim, strange characters, that I hope readers will love.”

Sally’s adventure begins when she accidentally sets free a Halloween Town villain that causes danger to Jack and residents of the holiday-themed towns in the film's story. The book is expected to debut in July 2022. 

“As we will learn in the book, she’s willing to risk quite a lot. Sally is one of the most compelling, and also richly-layered characters I’ve ever written, and it's an honor to get to tell her story,” Shea ends.
