Buntan makes impressive ONE debut with UD win over Wondergirl

Filipino-American fighter Jackie Buntan scored a convincing unanimous decision win in her debut against Wondergirl Fairtex of Thailand in their strawweight bout in ONE: Fists of Fury at the Singapore Indoor Stadium Friday night.

The opening round proved to be instrumental for Buntan after she floored the Thai top prospect with a solid left hook with 22 seconds left.

Buntan, of Filipino descent, showed who’s boss in boxing and striking, landing solid strikes and crisp punches to Wondergirl in the second and third rounds.

The counter-punching style of Buntan is also evident, unloading one-two combos throughout the match to negate any attempt of a turnaround from the Thai contender.

“I’m lost for words. I have a 100 percent confidence in my training, with my coaches and I believed that,” said the 23-year-old Buntan, who improved to a 21-5 record. “So I brought that with me here in the cage.”

Wondergirl, who sustained a swollen left eye, saw her two-match win streak snap and slid down to 34-17-2 muay thai record.
