Samantha Bernardo wears a dress inspired by Thailand's traditional garb

Her style game is off to a good start

Samantha Bernardo is starting her journey to win the Miss Grand International (MGI) 2020 crown with style and culture. As she heads on to Bangkok, Thailand, the beauty queen from Palawan donned a dress hailed from the traditional garment of Thailand called Chut Thai.

Crafted by local fashion designer Cyrus Gueta, the dress is imbued with different symbolisms, merging the beauty of Thai and Philippine culture. Completing the look is a gold ornate hair accessory by Ornate Manila.

"The ivory color symbolizes elegance and purity, embellished with clear glass beads and crystals that denotes wisdom and compassion which are Buddhist virtues. The accents of gold is to attract good fortune and abundance," Samantha posted. "The lines and color were made clean and simple to bring out the beauty of the Filipina skin."

Chut Thai, which means Thai outfit, comes in many forms and designs. In Samantha's look, it kept the essence of the traditional Thai garb with the incorporation of the pha biang, the shawl-like piece that draped diagonally across the chest and covers one shoulder as it falls to the back.Â

In the past years, fashion in the field of pageantry became more than just a beautiful dress and a tiara. Pageant candidates are now maximizing the power of clothing to represent their culture, tell more about their story, and create a bold statement.

MGI 2020 will be held on March 27, 2021 in Thailand where the reigning Valentina Figuera of Venezuela will crown her successor by the end of the competition.
