Here's where you can watch 'The Kingmaker' online

Active Vista will have a virtual screening of Lauren Greenfield’s 2019 documentary

From just a Bloomberg article about an animal island in the South China Sea, American filmmaker Lauren Greenfield directed a documentary that created such a buzz in the Philippines. Because right at the center of her investigative work is former First Lady Imelda Marcos.

It is just right to say that Imelda, for whatever reason, is an iconic figure. Her style and life has been mentioned in many pop culture pieces, from the pages of Kevin Kwan’s novel “Crazy Rich Asians” to TV shows like “The Assasination of Gianni Versace” and “The Crown.” Indeed, this is what has drawn Lauren to Imelda, her being a reference of luxury.

For 25 years, Lauren’s work has been focused on “wealth and consumerism and materialism. To her, “Imelda Marcos was kind of a natural subject,” as she once told The Hollywood Reporter.

That is what Lauren wanted to showcase in her 2019 documentary “The Kingmaker”: “money as it relates to power and political dynasty and the kind of rewriting of history.”

From Feb. 25 to 28, 2021, online community Active Vista is hosting an exclusive virtual screening of the acclaimed documentary.

“Thirty-five years after the People Power Revolution, the ghosts of the Marcos Regime continue to haunt us,” Active Vista posted. “The struggle goes on for a strong and free democracy. Remember why we’re fighting. Let's not let history repeat itself.”
