Have you seen that huge abstract painting along EDSA?

A gigantic piece of art to break the monotony of your daily commute

Taking arts to greater heights, literally, is Filipino artist Lloyd Tronco with his abstract work the size of a billboard. The Negros-raised artist's painting, dubbed as “Alab ng Sining,” measures 40 feet wide and stands at a towering 62 feet.

“This is a personal project,” Lloyd tells Manila Bulletin Lifestyle. “My career is really in advertising and media. Employed by McCann Erickson Philippines in 2001 to 2005, I handled the billboard requirements of the agency. Thus my familiarity with billboards.”

The artwork was made in celebration of National Arts Month. Being a son of artist Larry Tronco, it’s natural for Lloyd to take the same creative route. He initially studied at the UP College of Architecture for one semester in 1985. But the untimely demise of his father forced him to shift from architecture to fine arts at La Consolacion College of Bacolod.

Since it is too big to fit inside any museum, the artwork is displayed in Mandaluyong City at the corner of EDSA and Ortigas Avenue. “Alab ng Sining” is on display until the end of February.
