Pasay mayor asks residents to be vigilant after 4-month-old girl contracts COVID-19

Pasay City residents were asked to be more cautious after a four-month-old girl contracted coronavirus disease (COVID-19) on Tuesday.

Pasay City Mayor Emi Calixto-Rubiano told the city residents with babies to be vigilant and follow health protocols to avoid the spread of the disease in the city.

“Doblehin po natin ang pag-iingat sapagkat wala po talagang sinasanto ang sakit na ito at hindi namimili kung bata o mantanda ang magiging biktima (We have to be vigilant because anybody either children or the old ones can be victims of the disease),” Rubiano said.  

The mayor also asked the residents to participate in the citywide vaccination program of the government to fight the disease and end the pandemic.

“Mapanganib talaga ang sakit na ito at ang isa sa mabisang panlaban ay ang isinasagawa nating immunization campaign at kung mahal natin ang ating pamilya ay dapat makiisa at suportahan natin ito (The disease is deadly and the best solution in fighting the disease is the immunization. If we love our family then we all have to support the program),” Rubiano added.

The mayor was very much worried after learning the situation of the four-month-old baby girl and her mother who is also positive for COVID-19.

Rubiano said the city government will give all the help needed by the mother and the baby girl.

“Makakaasa po silang mag-ina ng tulong mula sa ating local na pamahalaan sapagkat bilang isang ina rin ay talagang nag-aalala ako at hindi ko po maisip ang aking gagawin kung malalagay sa panganib ang aking anak na sanggol (I assure that the city government will give all the help and assistance to the mother and child because as a mother, I will be worried also if my baby’s life will be in danger),” Rubiano said.

She said the local government is doing its best to contain the spread of the disease in the city through a more active conduct of RT-PCR testing and contact tracing.

“Subalit mababalewala ang lahat ng ito kung hindi makikipagtulungan ang ating mamamayan at maaring mapahamak pa po ang mga walang muwang na mga bata (Our efforts will be useless without the cooperation of the city residents and the children will be in danger),” Rubiano stressed.

The city government placed 34 villages and an establishment under localized community quarantine after a reported spike in COVID-19 cases.

The City Health Office (CHO) recorded as of February 22 a total of 395 cases with 56 new cases.
