Bullying, school violence accusations against (G)I-DLE's Soojin not true, says agency

The agency of K-pop girl group (G)I-DLE has refuted accusations of bullying and school violence against member Soojin, saying these are false. 

A Korean netizen made an online post claiming that Soojin called her younger sister and her friend to the bathroom and made them slap each other. The netizen also claimed Soojin slapped the younger sister, took her money and bullied her.Soojin and the younger sister, who were both born in 1998, were classmates at Waw Middle School located in Hwaseong, Gyeonggi Province in South Korea. Middle school in Korea is for 12 to 15 years old and Soojin, who was born on March 9, 1998, is currently 22 years old. She debuted in (G)I-DLE in 2018.

After the controversy grew, Cube Entertainment, (G)I-DLE’s agency, issued a statement to deny the school violence and bullying. It said it confirmed that the author of the post is the older sister of Soojin’s classmate at middle school. 

The netizen, the agency said, heard Soojin and her younger sister arguing on the phone, and subsequently, the netizen and Soojin had an argument over the phone.  

“However, it has been confirmed that the school violence and others as claimed by the author are not true at all,” it said. “We ask you that the members who are moving forward step by step, doing their best every moment toward their dreams, will not be hurt anymore.”  

It added that in the future, it will file charges and take other actions against those who will publish malicious posts and will not go easy against perpetrators who will face severe punishment. 

Cube Entertainment said last Dec. 15, it established an artist rights protection committee to monitor false posts, insults and sexual comments against its artists.
