P69 billion Davao Expressway project up for NEDA Board's ICC approval

DAVAO CITY – National Economic Development Authority (NEDA)-Davao Region director Maria Lourdes Lim said that the proposed construction of P69.81 billion Davao City Expressway Project is now up for the approval of NEDA Board’s Investment Coordination Committee-Cabinet Committee (ICC-CabCom).

Lim said that the proposed project is a two-way, four-lane urban 29.21-kilometer expressway, which aims to link city’s main areas with a centralized movement of passengers and cargo to the sea port and airport.

She said the phase 1 of this project will comprise 8.479-km elevated viaduct structure, covering Davao Coastal Road to Ma-a Interchange; phase 2 will be 8.510-km elevated viaduct structure from Panacan to Ma-a Interchange; and phase 3 will be 12.821-km at-grade structure, including an expressway tunnel of 0.27-km., from Ma-a Interchange to Dumoy Interchange.

The expressway is one of the Chinese government-supported projects, which also include Davao-Samal Bridge, expressway, and river bridge.

In May last year, Chinese Consul General Li Lin added that these projects will create jobs for the locals, which will help revitalize the local economy which has been severely affected by the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).
