Dizon eyeing more bubble-type training for national athletes

Secretary Vince Dizon, the deputy chief implementer of the National Action Plan Against COVID-19, said Tuesday they are coordinating with the Philippine Sports Commission (PSC) to create the guidelines for more bubble-type training of national athletes.

Dizon said the Philippine Athletics Track and Field Association (PATAFA) and the Triathlon Association of the Philippines (TRAP) have yet to secure a clearance after submitting their request for a bubble training.

“Kasalukuyan kaming nakikipag-usap sa kanila kasama ng PSC para ma-establish natin ang bubble protocols para makasimula na sila. Siguro sa mga darating na araw, malalaman natin ang desisyon ng PSC at ito ay ipapa-approve natin sa IATF tulad ng ginawa natin sa ibang training bubble (Probably we’ll learn the decision of the PSC in the coming days, and we will submit these for IATF approval the same way we did in other training bubble),” Dizon said in Tuesday’s Malacañang Press Briefing along with Presidential Spokesperson Harry Roque and vaccine czar Secretary Carlito Galvez.

So far, only the athletes bound to the Tokyo Olympics and Olympic qualifiers are allowed to train.

Select athletes from boxing, taekwondo and karatedo are already training inside the Inspire Sports Academy in Calamba, Laguna while the rest, especially those who are bound to the 31st Southeast Asian Games in Vietnam late this year, are still waiting for the IATF signal.
