BTS' J-Hope donates $135,600 to children with disabilities to mark 27th birthday

K-pop superstars BTS member J-Hope celebrated his 27th birthday on Feb. 18 and to mark the occasion, he donated to help children with disabilities. 

Charity organization ChildFund Korea announced that J-Hope made a donation of 150 million won (about $135,600 or P6.55 million) for children with disabilities. The donation will be used for childcare, learning and facility support expenses of children with visual and hearing impairments who are experiencing financial difficulties. 

"I heard that the number of vulnerable families is increasing significantly due to the prolonged COVID-19 crisis and especially, support for children with disabilities is urgent. I hope this donation will increase interest in children with disabilities in society,” said J-Hope.

J-Hope is a member of the Green Noble Club, a group of large donors of 100 million won or more of ChildFund Korea. He became the 146th member of the club in 2018. 

He donated 150 million won ($135,600) in 2018 for children, 100 million won ($90,400) in February 2019 for scholarship and 100 million won ($90,400) in December 2019 for the treatment expenses of patients. 

In 2020, he made a donation of 100 million won ($90,400) for children of families struggling because of COVID-19. 

In total, J-Hope, born on Feb. 18, 1994, has donated 600 million won ($542,400). 

ChildFund Korea Chairman Lee Je-hoon said that with J-Hope’s regulation donations, interest in children who are suffering from economic difficulties is increasing and this has led to inquiries from BTS ARMY in Korea and abroad. 

"ChildFund Korea will do its best to support children from low-income families in accordance with the wishes of donors including J-Hope,” he said.
