Zamboanga rooting for former Fairtex teammate over Fil-Am striker

Atomweight No. 1 fighter Denice Zamboanga is rooting for Wondergirl Fairtex, her former teammate, over Filipino-American striker Jackie Buntan.

"She (Wondergirl) is a very strong and very dedicated fighter. Her work ethic is exemplary. She always comes into camp motivated. As a fighter, she's long and athletic, and packs a lot of power,” said the undefeated Zamboanga, who holds an 8-0 mixed martial arts record including three straight wins in ONE Championship.

“I have to go with Wondergirl in this one. I know she's constantly improving every aspect of her game in every camp. I know her hard work and dedication. Her opponent seems to be also very good, so let's just see what happens in this fight. It's going to be a good one. I can't wait."

Zamboanga and Wondergirl, whose real name is Nat Jaroonsak, used to train at Thailand's famed stable Fairtex based in the capital Bangkok.

Not only they used to share the same gym but became very close friends, having been roommates back then before Zamboanga jumped ship to Marrok Force in Pattaya City last year.

"I will always support her in and out of the ring. That will never change,” added the 24-year-old Filipina fighter, believing that Wondergirl's work ethic will come into fruition against the Fil-Am debutant.

The 21-year-old Wondergirl, a two-time national muay thai champion, stunned Fil-Am KC Carlos with a second-round stoppage on August 28 last year, which was only a week after an explosive debut against Australian Brooke Farrell by way of knockout.

Year 2020 became an early breakout year for the Thai rising star after improving to a 35-16-2 muay thai record.

Buntan, 23, for her part, holds a 9-3 slate and represents California-based stable Boxing Works, with ONE atomweight kickboxing champion Jannet Todd as her chief sparring partner.
