Team Lakay, Benguet State University join forces for youth development

Famed Benguet-based stable Team Lakay and the Benguet State University have joined forces to improve the school's performance by molding young athletes ahead of future sporting events.

Team Lakay members attended a courtesy call Tuesday, Feb. 16, with BSU officials led by its president Dr. Felipe S. Comila to discuss possible future partnerships for sports and athletics-related programs and work hand-in-hand for other events.

"We would like to pass our knowledge and skills to the younger generations and continue to make champions," said Team Lakay coach Mark Sangiao, a BSU alumnus himself.

Comila, for his part, said Team Lakay should be recognized as a "National Treasure" following its numerous accomplishments in combat sports both at amateur and professional levels.

"We need patience, passion, perseverance and prayer to reach success. We'll work together, we'll dream together," said Comila, lauding Team Lakay and its athletes for the contributions and pride they brought to the region and the Philippines.

Sangiao was joined by ONE Championship stars Eduard Folayang, Kevin Belingon, Geje Eustaquio, Joshua Pacio, Stephen Loman and prized prospects Jhanlo Mark Sangiao, son of coach Mark, and national muay thai team member Islay Erika Bomogao, who were both alumni of BSU as well.

Team Lakay is best known for producing top-caliber fighters and molding champions both on local shore and overseas.

Sangiao himself is part of the Samahang Kickboxing ng Pilipinas' coaching staff, helping the organization land second overall in the 2019 Southeast Asian Games last December 2019 with three gold, two silver, and one bronze medals.
