K-pop star CL thanks people for comforting her after her mother passed away

K-pop star CL, former leader of girl group 2NE1, expressed her gratitude to people for their messages after her mother passed away.

It was announced on Feb. 10 that her mother, Hong Yoo-ra, died abroad on Jan. 23 due to heart attack. She was 53.

“Thank you for giving me light, during one of the most difficult times of my life, with all of your kind words and the outpour of love,” said CL in an Instagram post.

She added, “My mother, the most brave, selfless and giving person I know, will continue to live on through me with everything she has taught me.” CL also asked her mother to watch over her and her sister Harin.

The funeral was held for the customary three days from Feb. 10 and the burial was held on Feb. 12, based on the announcement by CL’s agency Team Very Cherry.

Due to the ongoing coronavirus disease (COVID-19) situation, the funeral was held quietly with only family and friends in attendance.

CL debuted as a member of 2NE1 in 2009. She and Zico were the featured artists in Epik High’s song “Rosario,” a track in the band’s new album “Epik High is Here” released last Jan. 18.
