Dota 2 gets Netflix anime adaptation

Are you a DOTA fan? How about anime? Or what if, both?

Gamers and anime lovers are in for a treat as streaming platform Netflix announced on Wednesday, Feb. 17, its anime adaptation of popular multiplayer online battle arena video game DOTA 2 by Valve.

Titled "DOTA: Dragon's Blood," the story narrates the journey of Davion, a renowned Dragon Knight devoted to wiping the scourge from the face of the world, and his encounters with a powerful, ancient eldwurm and the noble Princess Mirana, the Princess of the Moon.

The 56-second teaser itself doesn't reveal much of the story, but is centered on Davion, clad in red armor and a brown muffler, who tried to swing his sword on a raging dragon in the clip.

In the video game, Dragon Knight is a melee-strength user while Mirana relies on agility and her long-ranged attacks.

"Fans will love how we’ve imagined the DOTA 2 universe and woven together an epic, emotional, and adult-oriented story about some of their favorite characters," said showrunner and executive producer Ashley Edward Miller. "The cinematic animation, acting and music are simply next level and I’m grateful to Valve for supporting our creative ambitions."

DOTA 2, through its official Twitter account, also has a few words in celebration of the Netflix anime adaptation.

"We're excited to announce a brand-new anime series exploring the Dota universe like never before," it wrote. "As fellow fans of Dota and its passionate global community, we look forward to sharing this new adventure with you when it premieres on Netflix March 25."

The eight-episode anime series, in a joint collaboration with Netflix and Valve Corporation, is set to launch globally on March 25 with Studio MIR being responsible for its animation.

Miller is best known for penning the screenplay of| X-Men: Class," "Thor," "Agent Cody Bands," and "Black Sails" while Studio MIR's distinguished works include "Avatar: The Legend of Korra," "Voltron: Legendary Defender," and recently announced "The Witcher: Nightmare of the Wolf."
