Do air plants need fertilizer?

Air plants (Tillandsia) are one of the most low maintenance plants from the Bromeliad family. These root themselves to tree branches or shrubs rather than in the soil. They get nutrients from moist, humid air. If grown as houseplants, they require regular misting. 

Air plants do not need fertilizer, but fertilizing them involves benefits. Since air plants only bloom once, feeding them with fertilizer can encourage blooms, which also leads to the reproduction of ‘pups’ or small offsets that produce new plants. 

Air plants can be fed with regular houseplant fertilizer or fertilizers that are specifically for air plants or bromeliads.

Fertilizers can be applied to air plants once a month. If using the regular houseplant fertilizer, dilute them in your watering can and mist it to your plants. Apply it by misting or soaking to promote healthy plant growth.
