Tony Bennett diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease - report

Grammy award-winning musician Tony Bennett is battling Alzheimer's disease, according to a magazine report on Feb. 1.
Page Six reported that Tony started to show real signs of decline while he was recording an album with Lady Gaga two years ago.
"There's a lot about him that I miss. Because he's not the old Tony anymore... But when he sings, he's the old Tony," said Susan Bennett, in an interview for AARP Magazine.
Now 94, Tony's condition has been spared the orientation that can prompt patients "to wander from home, as well as the episodes of terror, rage or depression," the magazine reported.
Susan, 54, is the singer's caregiver who helps him in his Mediterranean diet and exercise regimen.
Dr. Gayatri Davi, who diagnosed Tony, has encouraged Susan to keep her husband singing.
Tony's last public appearance was in March 2020. To keep his brain stimulated, Tony rehearses twice a week, Page Six said.
"I'm hoping for that with Tony. Hopefully he'll just go to sleep one night and that will be that. I'm hoping and praying that he won't take a turn for the worse that's really crazy bad," said Susan.
On Facebook, Tony said: "Life is a gift - even with Alzheimer’s. Thank you to Susan and my family for their support, and AARP The Magazine for telling my story."
Tony is known for his songs "Because of You," "Cold, Cold Heart," "Rags to Riches," "Stranger In Paradise," "The Good Life," "I Left My Heart In San Francisco," etc.
"I Left My Heart In San Francisco" earned Bennett his first career Grammy's for 1962 for Record Of The Year and Best Solo Vocal Performance (Male). He performed the song on "The Best On Record," a TV special in conjunction with the 5th GRAMMY Awards.
