Robin Catalan to face Japanese fighter in ONE: Unbreakable III

Filipino fighter Robin Catalan is set to return in the Circle after more than a year, taking on Ryuto Sawada of Japan in ONE: Unbreakable III at the Singapore Indoor Stadium on Friday.

Catalan, representing the Makati-based stable Catalan Fighting System, hopes to kickstart the team's 2021 campaign on a good note after No. 4 strawweight Rene and atomweight contender Jhomary Torres suffered back-to-back losses in ONE: Big Bang last December.

The 30-year-old Catalan, the younger brother of Rene, last saw action in November 2019 with a second-round knockout win over Cuban wrestler Gustavo Balart. to improve at 10-6 record.

Against Sawada, who holds a 13-5-1 slate, Catalan will be facing a much younger opponent and a product of Rich Franklin's ONE Warrior Series.

The Japanese warrior, unlike Catalan, was able to fight last October and won against Chinese fighter Li Tao Miao in Reign of Dynasties II amid the coronavirus pandemic.

Sawada, training under the famed Evolve MMA, has won four of his last five fights since the second part of the ONE Warrior Series in 2018.
