Angel Locsin denies 'glorifying' Baguio City mayor for his 'sense of honor'

Angel Locsin has clarified that she's not glorifying Baguio City Mayor Benjamin Magalong when he resigned from his post as contact tracing czar for attending a party hosted by eventologist Tim Yap recently.

"Just putting this here not to justify pero para may ibang side naman. Ang refreshing makita sa balita na may accountability at sense of honor ang isang opisyal para aminin ang pagkakamali. Kelangan natin ng mga ganito. Also, magaling siya," Locsin said on Instagram recently.

The Kapamilya star added: "I know he’s all over the news lately, so, I just want to share our experience with him. He reminded us to wear our masks and face shields and to respect the locals by following safety protocols. He also wore his mask the whole time."

Despite the resignation, Angel vouched for Magalong's way of dealing with the pandemic.

Netizens gave mixed reactions for her remarks about Magalong.

One comment called out Angel and explained that "glorifying him will send the wrong signal to a lot of people, especially the youngsters."

A netizen advised Angel to put things in its proper perspective so that she will not be bashed.

"Remember that he kept quiet for more than a week after the party, and issued a statement only, (without even a shade of remorse,) when pictures came out in the social media. Noong nagkabukuhan na lang!," the online user said.

A netizen also questioned Angel on how she measures her honor and integrity. "Even the word irrevocable is not present in his resignation letter and came only as an afterthought, that to me is insincerity… And he cannot even explicitly express his profound apology to his constituents."

Angel responded: "Wala pong nag glo-glorify, sir. Sinabi ko lang po yung naranasan kong maganda naman para fair lang po. Hindi ninyo ho ba mabibigyan ng credit na finally merong opisyal na nag own up ng mistake sa dami ng mga nagmamatigas ngayon? Kung kaya nating magpuna ng mga pagkakamali, bat ko naman ipagkakait commending him sa bagay na tingin kong tamang ginawa ng isang tao? Baka po sa inyo, hindi po nagma-matter, pero malaking impact po kasi sa akin yun. Hindi ko po dini-dismiss yung mga sinasabi ninyo at may punto po kayo. Ito lang din po yung sa akin."
