Sara's party forms alliance with late Sen. Miriam's party for 2022 elections

The People's Reform Party (PRP), which was founded by late Sen. Miriam Defensor-Santiago, and the Hugpong ng Pagbabago, a party chaired by vice presidential candidate Sara Duterte-Carpio, has formally formed a political alliance for the upcoming 2022 elections.

This came after PRP, currently headed by Defensor-Santiago's husband Jun Santiago, and Hugpong signed Wednesday their 2022 Alliance Agreement, which was basically a renewal of their political alliance in the past 2019 elections.

The two parties said they are both seeking "a peaceful and democratic way of life for their constituencies, where freedom is upheld, and the rule of law is upheld, among others" for the upcoming change of administration.

According to Santiago, his party's principles are "reflections of the strong political stance and extraordinary qualities" of his late wife, which Duterte-Carpio also possessed.

Santiago said their shared objectives and vision paved the way for the renewal of the alliance.

The two groups adopted Duterte-Carpio as their vice presidential candidate. They said they will support the candidacies of the presidential and senatorial bets who will be selected by the presidential daughter.

For the local elections, PRP will not field local candidates but will endorse instead local candidates of Hugpong for Region XI.

Meanwhile, Hugpong said it will not endorse specific local candidates in other regions. Its members will be allowed to work with all candidates to promote unity.
