Malacañang to refrain from commenting on SC ruling on Anti-Terrorism Act for now--Nograles

Malacañang will keep mum over the Supreme Court ruling on the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020 until it actually receives the decision.

This was stated by Acting Presidential Spokesperson Karlo Nograles Thursday, Dec. 9, when sought for a statement on the new development.

"We will refrain from issuing a statement until we have secured a copy of the latest Supreme Court decision on Republic Act Number 11479 or the Anti-Terrorism Act of 2020," Nograles said.

The Cabinet Secretary further said that "the Office of the Executive Secretary will study the ruling" upon the receipt of the decision.

He added that "in consultation with the Office of the Solicitor General, thereafter consider the next course of action."

The Supreme Court has declared the controversial Anti-Terrorism Act constitutional except for two provisions.

The provisions that were stricken down are the qualifier portion of Section 4 and the second method for designation under Section 25 "while all other challenged provisions of RA 11479 are not unconstitutional."

"We reiterate that Republic Act Number 11479 underscores our commitment to seriously address terrorism and to uphold the rule of law," Nograles said.
