'Amihan' affects Luzon; shear line to bring rains in Visayas, parts of southern Luzon, Mindanao

The northeast monsoon, locally known as “amihan”, continues to affect Luzon. Meanwhile, in the next 24 hours, shear line will bring rains in Visayas, parts of Southern Luzon, and Mindanao, said the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA) on Thursday, Dec 9.

In a public weather forecast, Weather Specialist Grace Castañeda said that the shear line may bring scattered rain showers in eastern Visayas, Surigao del Norte, Dinagat Islands, Northern portions of Cebu, and Negros Occidental within 24 hours.

Scattered rain showers may also be experienced in parts of Sorsogon, Masbate, Misamis provinces, Camiguin, Agusan del Norte, Surigao del Sur, and the rest of Visayas.

Those residing in areas affected by the shear line are advised to remain vigilant against possible flooding and landslides.

Meanwhile, PAGASA added that the northeast monsoon may also bring cloudy skies with light rains in parts of Cagayan Valley, Apayao, Kalinga, Ifugao, Mountain Province, Aurora, Quezon, and the rest of Bicol region.

The state weather bureau also reiterated that a gale warning is in effect as of Thursday morning due to the strong gale-force winds associated with the northeast monsoon.

Fishing boats and other small seacrafts are advised not to venture out into the seaboards of northern Luzon; eastern seaboards of central and southern Luzon; eastern seaboards of Visayas and Mindanao; western coast of Aklan; Antique; and Cuyo Islands due to rough sea conditions.
