Pasig LGU distributes laptops to PLP students, teachers

The Pasig City local government distributed on Tuesday, Dec. 7, more than 1,000 laptops to the students and faculty members of Pamantasan ng Lungsod ng Pasig (PLP) as it continues to address the concerns on blended learning brought about by the COVID-19 pandemic.

"Mula noong unang pinagbawalan ang face-to-face classes, ginawa natin ang lahat para hindi matigil ang kabataan sa kanilang pagaaral (Ever since face-to-face classes were disallowed due to the pandemic, we did everything we could for our students to not stop studying)," Pasig City Mayor Vico Sotto said in his Facebook post.

"Ang bawat pisong nakalaan para sa edukasyon ay investment natin sa kinabukasan ng ating bayan (Every peso reserved for the education or our youth is investment for the future of our city)," he added.

The local government unit (LGU) continues to boost its educational programs for the youth and assistance to teachers adversely affected by the change in the educational system due to COVID-19.

The LGU distributed laptops and tablets to both students and teachers of schools under the Pasig Department of Education Schools Division Office (Pasig DepEd SDO) and LGU, K-12 and PLP.

On Dec. 6, Ugong National High School and Pasig Elementary School were among the 28 schools in Metro Manila which participated in the pilot run of limited face-to-face classes as the number of active COVID-19 cases continue to decline.

Last Oct. 26, Pasig City distributed laptops with hard drives to 40 newly hired teachers.

In a Viber message to Manila Bulletin, Sotto said that around 4,600 public school teachers in the city have received laptops from the city government.

The mayor added that teachers with old and unserviceable laptops assigned to them may coordinate with the SDO for a replacement.
