Dubstep, Team Secret prove doubters wrong with solid group stage run in Valorant Champs

Jayvee "DubsteP" Paguirigan and his Team Secret were on cloud nine after pulling off a massive group stage campaign that allowed the Philippine representatives to secure a spot in the top 8 of the Valorant Champions 2021 in Berlin, Germany.

Team Secret proved that its first game against Gambit Esports where the Filipinos stole a map off the tournament’s heavy favorites was a no fluke.

The all-Filipino crew came out unscathed in the next two games, scoring 2-0 sweeps both against Crazy Racoons of Japan and Team Vikings of Brazil to earn a spot in the quarterfinals against another European powerhouse Acend.

DubsteP still couldn’t believe what his team has done especially with a lot of people doubting the team heading into the world meet.

“To be honest I still couldn’t believe it, even you guys couldn’t believe it right. I’m speechless right now and I don’t know what to say but I’m really thankful to everyone who believe in us,” said Dubstep in the aftermath of TS’ triumph over Team Vikings.

“There were a lot of people who were hating on us coming in to the tournament. They were saying that you are lucky to even get one score, everyone will 2-0 you but we came here and we prove them wrong. I’m happy that my teammates and me, everyone in Team Secret help us through that,” he added.

Dubstep, for his part, was also having a stellar run in the tournament so far highlighted by a 45-26-4 KDA and an 11-5 first kill to first death ratio in Secret’s two map sweep of Team Viking.

The former Counter-Strike: Global Offensive pro player had also turned heads as one of the tournaments best Jett users.

“I still give props to my teammates especially Wits. He was the one who is taunting the enemies for me, flashing the enemies for me and Jessievash on the Sova he was supporting me in everything,” said Dubstep.

“Everyone in my team gives the support I need to perform in this caliber,” he added.

Work is far from done for Team Secret however as Dubstep will have his dream matchup against Mehmet Yağız "cNed" İpek of Team Acend on Thursday, Dec 9 (Manila time).

“I saw how he plays and I believe he is the best Jett player in the world but I want to prove something against him and I’ll do it in the playoffs.”
