DOH logs 370 new COVID-19 cases

The Department of Health (DOH) on Wednesday, Dec. 8 reported 370 new cases of the coronavirus disease (COVID-19).

The latest case bulletin of the DOH also showed 861 new recoveries and 171 new deaths.

The 370 new cases brought the total number of cases in the country to 2,835,593.

Total recoveries climbed to 2,773,322 while total deaths increased to 49,761.

The DOH said of the 171 reported deaths, only 6 occurred in December 2021.

It added that 19 percent of the reported deaths today occurred in November 2021 due to late encoding of death information to COVIDKaya.

"This issue is currently being coordinated with the Epidemiology and Surveillance Units to ensure information is up to date," said DOH.

The Health department said 27 duplicates were removed from the total case count as 25 of these were recoveries and one is a death.

"In addition, 95 cases were found to have tested negative and have been removed from the total case count. Of these, 92 are recoveries," the DOH said.

"Moreover, 150 cases that were previously tagged as recoveries were reclassified as deaths after final validation," it added.

The DOH said two labs were not operational on Dec. 6, 2021 while five labs were not able to submit their data to the COVID-19 Document Repository System (CDRS).

It added that based on data in the last 14 days, the seven labs contribute, on average, 1.2 percent of samples tested and 1.9 percent of positive individuals.
